Here is an estate auction find that is sure to please those who love antiques. It is a wooden box that has been covered in wallpaper since the 1880s. It measures about 11" x 9" x 8" and the lid is separate from the bottom. The outside is covered with wallpaper from the 1800s and the inside is lined with newspapers from Lancaster, Pa. back in the early 1880s. I determined the approximate age of the box from one particular news article. In that article, it spoke of US Secretary of the Treasury...Sec. Folger. My research showed me that he held this office in the years 1881-1884, therefore, I think it most likely that this was made back around that time. It looks and feels right for that time frame. There is some paper loss on one side and chips here and there but this box is really a great find. If you like antiques, then this should be a favorite...it's great to use for storage!!
