Portrait Miniature on Ivory of Lady, Early Victorian
This is quite an interesting portrait miniature on ivory of a young woman. The miniature is in excellent condition, with no paint loss, and is circa 1840, or maybe even a little earlier. It's in it's original red leather carrying case, with a glass cover, and the miniature seems to be matted in velvet. The case itself has suffered some damage and leather is worn, and it is a little warped, making it difficult to close, even though the original clasp is still present. It has done its job though, because it has protected the miniature all these years, The case and miniature are oval, measuring 2 and 1/2 inches North to South, and , when closed, 2 and 1/4 inches East to West.
