What a lovely boxed set of 6 buttons this set is, and it includes a large belt buckle, and two silver "things" with little chains, which I'm sure serve a purpose for this set. Perhaps so the buttons could be used as cufflinks??? Anyway, the buttons feature a man in Elizabethan dress, standing, and playing the lute, under a tree. The large, two piece buckle, features the same man with the lute, but is larger, and shows him playing the lute to a lady. The set is in excellent condition. It probably has never been used, and has rested in its box for over 100 years. The hallmarks are visible, and declare that these buttons are British Sterling, minted in Birmingham, in the year 1903, by the maker, "L & S." The buttons are 7/8 of an inch in diameter, and the buckle, both pieces together, measures 2 and 7/8 inches East to West, and 1 and 3/4 inches North to South. The buckle alone weighs 20.73 grams, and each button weighs 2.14 grams. What a unique set, for collectors, or anyone who really wants to dress up an outfit!
