I love the heart rings, especially the double one, and always buy them when I can. This one is very unusual, because the stones are opal and amethyst, and both I, and the dealer in London from whom I bought it, have never seen this stone combination before. Generally these rings are sapphire and diamond, sapphire and ruby, diamond and ruby, etc. This is the first time I have ever seen an opal in a double heart ring. I suspect this was a special order piece, and most likely the stones are the birthstones of a husband and wife, engaged couple, etc. This one has a wonderful rose diamond crown, and rose diamond surround. The ring is a size 6, but could be sized by a jeweler who is used to dealing with antiques. This piece is circa 1830. The heart and crown part measures 1/2 inch East to West, and 1/2 inch North to West.
