Master Humphrey's Clock, Charles Dickens, 1st (first) edition, 3 Vol
This is a great 3 volume, first edition (bound from parts) of Master Humphrey's clock , by the famed Victorian novelist, Charles Dickens. This edition was published in 1840, in London. It contains "Master Humphrey's Clock," "Barnaby Rudge," and "The Old Curiosity Shop." Dickens was first published in serial form, and readers collected the parts and had them bound. This set is in very good shape for its age. It has marbled board, marbled fronts and ends pieces, and leather spines and corners. It contains the engravings by Cattermole and Brown. These are large volumes. Each measures 10 inches North to South, 7 inches East to West, and is 1 inch thick. Each of these volumes has the bookplate of the original owner, and these are becoming collectible in their own right. I always buy Dickens' first when I can get them. When I first started buying in London in 1995, it was not difficult to get them. I once had this same set, in the late 90's, at half the price. That was then! They are getting much harder to come by now, and I must admit to keeping a few!
