Mother and Daughter, Pair of Pencil Sketches, Georgian

Here we have a pair of wonderful sketches, done in pencil, of what appears to be a Mother and Daughter. They face each other, as these pairs were supposed to do, though unfortunately, I did not place them that way for the photo. Please forgive me; I had to take these over because of glare. The detail of hair and dress here is magnificent. These appear to be the original frames, and there is no damage except a yellowing of the paper, through time. One of the figures is signed "Sketched by . . . , 1831." I can't make out the name. The other one is dated and signed "MS I think) August, 1832. The back of one of the frames have information on the back. i can't make all of it out, but part looks like "Mary, or May Word, Mother and Daughter, 1831. Framed, each sketch measures 8 and 1/4 inches, North to South, and 6 and 1/4 inches East to West. How I wish these could talk and tell me more of their history!
