This is so cool! This Chinese blue and white (really grey) porcelain trinket box would be beautiful all by itself. What really makes it so special are the silver dragons and phoenixes that adorn the box. The bottom has two Chinese marks which I have been unable to identify, but the reputable auction house where I purchased it claims it is 19th century.
Update: A collector of these boxes emailed me to state that his boxes have the same mark, and it "bears the reign mark of the Emperor Daoguang 1821-1850."
The trinket box is heart shaped and in excellent condition with no damage, although it does have overall crazing as one would expect in an antique piece. The design includes mountain scenery with people engaging in various activities. The inside is also painted. The top has a painting of two people, one of which is playing a musical instrument. The bottom depicts someone dancing. The box is 3.75" at the widest part of the heart shape, and it is about 2.25" tall with the lid on.
