Harmony Kingdom Rumble Seat Treasure Jest Box
The UK based Harmony Kingdom began making the Treasure Jest boxes in the early 1990's. They have quickly become highly collectible. The boxes are intricate carvings by master artists made of crushed marble and resin to resemble antique ivory. The Treasure Jests are a humorous line often with secret images or markings that have meaning to artist's life.
This box is "Rumble Seat." According to Harmony Kingdom, "there is no need to search for the mouse on this piece; there are 15 mice scattered about the six friendly felines who lounge on an antique chair. Inside the box lies a slice of Swiss cheese. When the lid is removed, you will find the inscription “Dr 3 20.5.96.” This is a reference to the death of British actor Jon Pertwee, who was the third actor to play Doctor Who in the widely popular British sci-fi television show by the same name... Hallmarks include ©, diamond, clock face with month 5, HBC logo, and Pc." A total of 38,218 boxes were produced for this piece.
The box was originally carved by master carver Peter Calvesbert in 1996 and released on 6/1/1996. The dimensions of the piece are 2.6 x 2.4 x 2.83 inches. The model number is TJCA5. Rumble Seat is referenced in the 9th edition Price Guide to Contemporary Collectibles and Limited editions by Mary L. Sieber. The box figurine is in excellent condition, but unfortunately does not come with the original box or insert.
