Antique Fine Gold French Love Pendant - image 1 of 4

This is the iconic French love token coined the "medaille d'amour. It was the artistic rendition of the love poem written by Rosemond Gerard to her husband . "For you see, I love you more today than yesterday and less than tomorrow.

In 1907 the firm of Alphonse Augis opened a jewelry shop in Lyons. He interpreted the line of the poem and designed a beautiful, symbolic piece of jewelry. The "plus" signifies the word more and the "minus" means less. The plus is set with five tiny rose diamonds and the minus is set with five synthetic rubies.
This is a particularly lovely example and one of the earliest dated pendants I have sold. On the reverse it is dated August 2, 1908. It is also signed on the reverse A. Augis. The perimeter has deeply chased laurel leaf pattern.

The attached top ring has a French guarantee stamp of a horse's head which was used until 1919. It is also A.A.(Alphonse Augis) on the attached ring.
It weighs an impressive 6.8 grams.
The chain is not included, but we do offer others for sale.
Excellent, all original condition.

It is a wonderful, symbolic piece of jewelry that carries over a century of love.
France, 1908
