Such beauty is found in this petite treasure of a brooch. It is French, 18 karat gold and is designed as the "attributes" of love. It has Cupid's quiver and bow, silver set in rose diamonds, typical of the time period. The quiver and bow was set among a field of leaves. It was then placed upon a teal blue, guilloche enamel background. Guilloche, is a decoration on metal (in this case gold) of a pattern which is then covered with a translucent enamel. This process, highlights the pattern.
The "framing" of this work of art is a perimeter of tulips, also symbolic of love , and four "X's" symbolizing devotion (alliance). The reverse is hand engraved with flowers.
It is so remarkably rendered. Wear it on a sweater or shirt, or loop it through chain links.
Truly one of a kind, unique and beautiful.
It is unmarked and tested for gold content of 18 karat.
France , early 19th century
