This is an antique chalcedony, 18 karat gold watch key, circa 1800. It is rare to find in gold and rarer still to find in this superb condition. The chalcedony is set in a fine gold bezel with the original steel winding mechanism.
It measures 2 inches long with the bail X 1 3/8ths across.
The top bail swivels so it is very easy to join with a chain or cord without adding an extra element..
French origin. It is marked with a partially struck head of a rooster which dates this to the years 1798-1809.
It also has a maker's mark. Fully tested for 18 karat gold.
Completely original, in excellent condition and uniquely beautiful.
