Rare 18 karat gold Mother of Pearl Double Sided French Locket Circa 1800 - image 1 of 5

This is a unique, antique French double sided locket. It has a lovingly carved image done in mother of pearl. One side has the image of a dog and the reverse has a lyre and torch. The lyre symbolizes love and the torch everlasting devotion.
There is a French guarantee stamp for 18 karat gold on the top loop of a left facing head of a coq (rooster). This mark dates the locket to the years 1798-1808. The chain is not included but chains are available separately.
It measures 1 1/4 inch diameter x 1 5/8th long with the bail.
How remarkable to find in this superb, all original condition. The locket opens and closes securely.
For anyone who loves animals or tokens of love and devotion, this is charming, beautiful example.
