This is a rare, antique 18 karat gold, French locket, circa 1820. It has five faceted pink topaz stones in the pendant and one in the bail. The gold work, as expected of this period is superb. The gold is multi-colored with both rose and yellow tones. The center of the locket is transparent glass and it opens from the reverse. It could house a lock of hair, a ribbon etc. I personally love it worn as seen in the photos.
Pink topaz is rare in early jewelry and was reserved for the best examples. It is completely original and in excellent condition.
It measures 1 1/2 inches with the bail x 1 inch across.
There is a tiny guarantee stamp on the attached top ring. It is the head of a ram. This dates the piece to 1819-1838.
The chain is contemporary and available separately.
Wear it with a chain of choice or a ribbon. It is magical.
