Germany, c. 1910-1920
This happy boy resembles the dolls made by Gebruder Heubach, however he does not have any of the markings used for Heubach. He is marked on the back of his head with: Germany / 243 / 2/0. This mold and exact description of the doll is listed in the Cieslik book on German doll marks as an unknown maker c. 1920
There is no damage to the solid dome bisque head, just some rubs to the finish. He has nicely modeled features with intaglio blue eyes and an open mouth with two tiny bottom teeth. He has molded hair as well. He is on a five piece composition body that is crude in quality – not unusual for this time frame. He is wearing a two piece sailor suit with matching hat and a big blue collar. I've had him for many years, and he's always worn his bone Stanhope binoculars that have a picture of Niagara Falls. He's nice to display with girl dolls of his size and he's quite a charmer. The pup is for display only and is not included.
