10 1/2" Early Papier Mache Doll with Glass Eyes and Original Clothes
Germany, c. 1860-1880. Lovely, unusual doll with papier mache shoulderhead and black glass eyes. The body is cloth with bisque lower arms. She is wearing her original plum colored dress with a black apron, cotton stockings and polished cotton slip and pantaloons. Also wearing original slippers and an unusual headpiece consisting of metal accents attached right into the head and a long lace veil. The antique lace pieces on the bodice and apron have been added to to cover deterioration of the dress fabric in the bodice area. It may have had an inset of a different fabric which is completely gone now. There are some other holes throughout the purple fabric. There is some age wear to the face, but no touch ups. I was told this doll came from the Hasbrouck Estate in New York. I purchased her several years ago while on a trip through the Hudson Valley area. US Shipping Only.
