In 1883 two brothers, Alfred and Frederick Johnson, purchased a defunct pottery known as the Charles Street Works in Hanley, England. By the end of the 1890's Johnson Brothers may have been the largest earthenware manufacture in the world. The "Mongolia" Flow Blue China Pattern, circa 1890 - 1910, reflects the oriental influence of the period, with a central motif of peacocks in a beautiful oriental garden and borders of floral and geometric design. The shape is a plain smooth rim. This lovely open vegetable bowl is 7 1/2" across and 2 3/8" deep. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. It is stamped "Mongolia - Crown Mark - Johnson Bros. - England". A beautiful and rare Flow Blue pattern.
