J.B Owens founded his company in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1891. Though much of his energies was devoted to tile production, art pottery was created at the factory. The factory burned in 1928 and the company closed thereafter. This vase is the "Utopian" line which is a standard brown ware with underglaze slip decoration introduced around 1900. The front of this vase is decorated with a branch of colorful fall leaves in brown, rust, gold and green. It stands 4 3/4" in height, has no cracks, chips, nicks, hairlines; some fine crazing lines. The base is stamped "J.B.Owens Utopian 832". Near the base are the artists initials. A rather hard-to-find pottery in excellent condition.
