Pyrography is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a poker; also known as pokerwork or wood burning. The term means "writing with fire", from the Greek pur (fire) and graphos (writing).
This wonderful wall necktie rack, circa 1900-1915, is decorated in the Art Nouveau style. The front has a lovely lady's profile, several large rose blossoms and intertwining ribbons which also spell the word "Ties". The tie bar is decorated with flowing ribbons and the back of the piece has a unique "star burst" design. The tie rack measures 12" in length, 5" in length and extends from the wall 1 1/8". The hanger tabs are replacements. There are no damages or repairs; near mint.
