Set of 5 Waterford Crystal "Ashling" Pattern Sherry Stems

The Waterford Glass House was founded by brothers George and William Penrose in 1783. They made the bold promise to produce "as fine a quality of any in Europe in the most elegant style". Waterford owners were forced to close in 1851 because of lack of capital and crushing taxes and as a result the trade lay dormant for a hundred years. The company was rekindled in 1947 and has regained it's place on the world stage of quality merchandise.

This wonderful set of 5 sherry stems is the "Ashling" pattern which was introduced in 1954 and is now discontinued. The name was inspired by the common feminine name in Ireland meaning 'dream of beauty'. The motif consists of cut fans and panels, octagon shaped stem and round star cut base. These sherry stems measure 5 1/8"" in height, 2 1/8" across the top and hold two ounces. Each is marked "Waterford" on the base. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. I have one additional matching sherry which has a flake off the rim which I will include at no cost. This could be professionally smoothed to create a set of 6. Stunning pattern.
