A fantastic hand-blown Obelisk from one of the famous Murano craftsmen of the time. If you collect mid-century modern art glass, circa 1950's, it doesn't get better than this Eames era piece.
Murano glass is what makes the island of Murano unique and outstanding in the world of glass creations. For centuries glass blowing has been taking place and continues in the traditional way still now. This Obelisk has a central elongated cone of alternating ribbons of clear, blue and clear bubbled glass flowing from the base while gently swirling around to create a cone standing 13 1/2" in height. Applied to this cone are three heavy clear glass rods graduating from heavier at the base to thinner at the top. They are gently twisted around the central cone, separating the different ribbons and creating the ultimate swirl design. From all angles you can see the individual ribbons of interior glass. The triangular shaped base measures about 4 1/2" across. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Great sculptural piece lively organic form in restrained colors.
