Pair of Tiffin Vaseline (Uranium) Glass "Spiral Optic" Candlesticks

The Tiffin Glass Company was founded in 1889 by A.J. Beatty in Tiffin, Ohio. Tiffin glass was billed as "America's Prestige Crystal" and was advertised as being "within reach of the limited budget". At one time the output of Tiffin was double that of A.H. Heisey and Cambridge. Production ceased in 1983. Vaseline or Uranium glass is a transparent yellow to yellow-green glass owing its color intensity to the uranium content. Vaseline glass became popular in the mid-19th century with its greatest popularity being from the late 1880's to the 1920's. The term Vaseline glass is based on a perceived resemblance of petroleum jelly as formulated and commercially sold at this time in history.

This very beautiful and elegantly styled, Tiffin 'Spiral Optic' Pattern Vaseline or Uranium glass candlesticks, circa 1900-1920, have a rich vibrant yellow-green color that changes depending upon the lighting conditions. From a round, raised base with a gently swirling design, the deeply twisted, rope-like stem, extends upward to a simple candle socket with flared rim. They measure 9 1/4" in height and 4 1/4" across the base. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. A wonderful pair of candlesticks. I also have a stemmed tazza in this pattern in my store.
