Rosenthal Blue Delft Cabinet Plate w/Dutch Canal Scene

The first Rosenthal company, a factory decorating porcelain was started in 1879 in Southern Germany. Founded by Philip Rosenthal in Erkerseuth, near Selv, Bavaria, it was relocated to Selb in 1890.

This lovely scenic Delft plate, circa 1896-1906, depicts a quaint and quiet canal scene with sail boat, bridge, house and woodland area. The hand- painted scene is executed in muted shades of medium blues creating the illusion of a cloudy, misty day.

The coup-style plate measures 8 3/8" across and is fully marked in blue "R C Delft & Germany" It is also factory drilled for easy hanging. There are no cracks, chips or repairs.
