"Chintz" is the generic name for English china with an overall floral transfer design. This eye-catching china is reminiscent of chintz dress fabric of English gardens in full bloom.
Crown Ducal was a trading arm of A.G Richardson & Co. Ltd., Based at the Gordon Pottery, Tunstall, Stroke on Trent, England. Established in 1915 producing Deco patterns, the company was purchased by Wedgwood in 1974. This lovely octangular shaped luncheon plate is the "Purple Chintz" pattern #664, which consists of a multitude of garden floral in shades of purple, red, pink, blue and yellow with shaded green leaves against a white background. Hidden within the colorful floral are various exotic birds in their full splendor. This pattern was introduced in 1935. The plate measures 8 3/8" across and has the stamped Crown Ducal mark as well as the pattern number. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; the colors are bright and vivid.
