The "B & D" trademark represents Beardmore & Dawson, Longton, England, who were established in 1863 but were in operation for only four months.
This wonderful twelve-sided serving bowl is the Ontario, Lake Scenery pattern in medium to dark blue color. The wide borders are divided into seven cartouches with scrolls and branches of flowers against a lined background. The central motif is composed of mountains, trees, flowers, waterfalls, a castle, men and women dressed in Victorian attire and what appears to be several Indian teepees. For many people this Canadian scene of Lake Ontario is a subject of controversy. The bowl measures 10 1/4" across and 2" in depth. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; several tiny glaze nicks on the edge. A great pattern and rare maker.
