Robert Levey, David Jaffe and Irving Landsman founded the Fashioncraft Jewelry Company, New York City, in 1942. The company changed its name to Robert Originals, Inc about 1960. Their designs have natural and floral motifs with the use of faux pearls, colored glass, crystal beads and high quality imported rhinestones. The mark used was "Original by Robert" 1942 - 1979 with a copyright symbol added after 1955.
This lovely brooch has a very classic motif of interspersed hand-wired faux pearl flowers, some with clear rhinestone centers; faux mother-of-pearl leaves; prong-set marquise and chaton clear rhinestones; three emerald colored rhinestones, each a different shape; all set on antique silver-tone filigree mountings. The brooch measures 2" across and 2 1/4" in height. Marked "Original by Robert" with copyright symbol on artist pallet shaped cartouche. In excellent vintage condition, with some minor wear and metal discoloration under close examination. Lovely piece, reminiscent of early Haskell creations.
