Glass making in the Czech lands has a thousand years, uninterrupted history in creativity and craftsmanship. Czech glass making held it's dominance through the early 20th century and until the Nazi invasion of 1938, when world markets disappeared in the smoke and ruin of World War II.
This beautiful cut and engraved wine/liquor decanter, circa 1920's, is a marvel of craftsmanship of the era. Lovely amber over clear crystal is both cut and engraved to create this gem. Standing 16" in height, the stopper towers 5 1/2" over the body of the decanter. The base starts with a heavy circular clear band decorated with amber diamonds; the body portion is completely covered with a gorgeous amber-to-clear cut and engraved vintage motif with bunches of grapes, leaves and tendrils; the neck consists of a band of amber diamonds and two amber bands cut to expose clear bulls-eyes. The over-the-top stopper is a heavy clear disc with amber diamonds surrounding the edge topped with a 3 1/2" clear, tapered hexagon sphere. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; some minor cloudiness in the bottom of the decanter.
