Victorian silver figural napkin rings, circa 1880 - 1900, are beautiful and fun to collect. These silver plated works of art are whimsical, was well as practical. During the Victorian era, they were a show of status, as well as being functional. Each member of the family, or guest, would have their own figural napkin ring, usually representing their passions and hobbies.
This wonderful large ring is engraved with an art nouveau pattern of scrolls, floral, dots and other designs, There is an open cartouche in which to engrave the owners initials; the cartouche is blank on this ring. Sitting along side the ring is a large 3-dimensional figure of a shaggy dog holding his favorite bone in his right paw. The detail on the figure is superb from his curled tail, long-haired coat, friendly face, large eyes down to his detailed paws. There is no markers stamp on this figural napkin ring. There are no damages or missing components. The condition is excellent with old unpolished patina. Great item.
