W Adams & Sons Blue Transfer "Athens" Pattern Plate

The William Adams Company, Tunstall and Stoke, Staffordshire, was originally established in 1769. The name of W Adams & Sons mark was used from 1819 - 1864. This wonderful dark blue transfer plate in the "Athens" pattern consists of a central design of large fountain w/putto, lake with swans and classical buildings of the era. The wide border contains five cartouches of scrolls, floral designs and historical architecture. The plate measures 7 1/2" across and is stamped "No 56978"; English Registry indicating date of production as Jan 3, 1849 and "Athens - W Adams & Sons". There are no cracks, chips or repairs, some minor utensil marks from usage.
