Light in Darkness - here I combine true black and white diamonds with solid 18 karat yellow and sterling silver for a necklace which defines sublime. Dichotomously ornate and spare, this jewel is an heirloom. 72 individual faceted round black diamonds, each dancing with light and totalling 79.2 carats, are embraced by solid 18 karat yellow gold granulated discs and knotted on doubled black silk. The diamonds are graduated in size and increase as they come toward the centerpiece of the necklace, itself a 16mm round orb of solid 18 karat yellow gold and sterling silver. Set within this round are approximately 2 carats total weight of rough mine-cut white diamonds and tiny faceted pave diamond points. Each mine-cut diamond is set against a black enameled background which links it to the black diamond necklace. Flanking the centerpiece are two solid 18 karat yellow gold granulated cups, and the necklace finishes with an incredibly heavy and ornate 18 karat yellow gold barrel clasp. I have created simple black diamond and 18 karat yellow gold drop earrings to complete, not compete with, the necklace. The earrings comprise just under 4 carat of black diamond on 18 karat yellow gold wire.
The light flashes in the photographs are not added; those are the sparkles thrown by the diamonds in sunlight....truly spectacular.
The necklace is an opulent 20.25" in length and the earrings drop just under .75" from braided 18 karat yellow gold hooks. This amazing set, evocative of the Art Deco style and the High Middle Ages, ships in a presentation box.
