Kybele...the ancient Phrygian goddess of fertility...interestingly, in Asia Minor, Kybele became entwined with the Greek goddess Artemis, and her cult was based out of Ephesus. Known as the Ephesian Artemis, she was depicted in statues as being covered in various offerings from the farmer and shepherd. Most notably, clustres of grapes and sheaves of grain appeared around her neck and in her headdress. These earrings echo that motif. Clustres of lemon quartz rondelles of a pale wheaten colour crown beautiful chocolate freshwater pearls. Permanently dyed, these pearls display a shifting rainbow of colours (gold, copper, bronze, eggplant), depending on how the light hits them. Their skins are smooth and their nacre is clear.
The clustres fall from 22 karat gold over sterling silver vermeil hooks of twisted wire, and measure a demure 1" from the base of the hooks. These lovely earrings ship in a gift box.
