Japanese Tobacco Box Tabako Bon Keyaki Wood & Lacquer, Antique Meiji Era

Gorgeous and rare antique (circa 1880) Keyaki wood tobacco box with gold lacquer decoration. The box is 8-1/2" wide, 5-1/2" high (9" high with handle up), and 5-1/2" deep.

The box is in good condition, with the following flaws: 1.) On the upper left side a narrow piece of 4-1/4" trim is missing. 2.) Also missing is a narrow front piece of the lift-off brazier cover. 3.) The black lacquer handle also has a few chips, shown in the last photo. None of these flaws is obtrusive, as you can see from the photos.

For a very similar example see Miller's 2004 International Price Guide, page 559.

The tobako bon will be shipped via USPS Registered Mail Insured. It weighs a bit over 2 lbs. unpackaged.
