Okinawan Tsuboya Fish Vase, Arts & Crafts Style, Signed Kobashigawa

This fabulous 6-1/2" high vase is deeply carved and incised with 4 fish, each in a different color. The style is very " Arts & Crafts", so it was a surprise to see the Japanese kanji incised in the base. I later learned this style is very traditional for Kobashigawa pottery.

A Japanese friend who saw the vase translated the kanji for me, and set me in the right direction (Okinawa) for research. Many thanks to Shigeko!

I date this vase c. 1950. It is in excellent condition, with only some original firing cracks to the glaze of the base. It is glazed internally, and holds water.
