Northwest Indian Basket, Small Oval, Nootka or Makah, Native American

This nice old trinket basket measures about 8.5 cm (3-3/8" long). Excellent condition. No problems except the fading we always see on these old baskets.

The Nootka lived along the west coast of Vancouver Island, Canada, and the northwest portion of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. I have identified this as Nootka rather than Makah (Washington State) because although the basket is very similar to a Makah Indian basket, the start is slightly different.
