Lovely colors and pattern on this late 19th C Derby Porcelain Plate...it is done in a combination of underglazed transfer and overglaze enameling. The pattern number (in red on the back) is 5969. It measures 10-1/4" (26 cm) in diameter.
This plate is in good condition. No hidden hairlines, as it rings like a bell when struck. No chips, no repairs. There is normal wear to the ochre colored edge, wear in several places to the interior border, and some utensil marks.
There are no date cipher marks under the printed Derby mark...therefore this plate should date 1878-1881, according to Godden's mark book. The pattern is 5969.
