Antique Chinoiserie Plate, Blue & White Chinese Raft Pattern, c 1810

This 9-1/2" blue transferware plate is decorated in the pattern called "Chinese Raft". The pattern and the plate date about 1810. The prominent feature is a boy on a raft. The border incorporates selected scenes from the central pattern and is framed with a line and fish eye pattern.

This 200 year old plate is in very good condition. There are no cracks or repairs. There is a small shallow chip to the front edge of the plate (at about 4 o'clock). There is some crazing above the pavilion on the left, and a light brownish discoloration just below the raft. There are a few spots of roughness which could be from stilt marks. The plate displays very well.

This plate is unmarked. I have read that the pattern was used by Cambrian Pottery, Swansea, and Herculaneum Pottery, Liverpool. It was likely made by some of the Staffordshire potteries, also.
