This large and gorgeous Satsuma vase is decorated with Samurai on one side and Scholars on the other. It is 18-1/2" (47 cm) tall, and weighs almost 6 pounds.
The condition is excellent, showing only heavy wear to the gilding of the lip, and a shallow nick on the lip which has been touched up with gold enamel. No other chips, or cracks. The vase does have a flaw in the making. The neck is canted to one side, and is not perfectly symmetrical. The vase displays well from its front, but can look "crooked" if turned in other ways. I have tried to show this in my photos. This seems to be a common problem with very tall ceramics.
The vase is signed on the base. It dates from the late Meiji era, c. 1900.
Because this vase will require an "oversized" box for shipping by USPS Priority Mail, I have estimated the shipping/insurance cost to be about $45 for delivery to the lower 48 states.
