This hand painted box shows delightful floral sprays in the classic Famille Rose palette. This porcelain box with brass mounts was made for export to Europe, imitating early 19th century Samson (a famous French porcelain company). Very interestingly, this unique piece reflects the stylistic design making a full circle. This design first appeared in 18th century Chinese porcelain that was made for export to the European market. Then, the French company Samson decided to emulate this Chinese design and use it on their own porcelain, which became very popular in its own right at the time, and to this day. Finally, the Chinese appreciated the subtle differences in the French design, and emulated that design! The creation and adaptation of the design itself went from China to France and back to China, with all of Europe and the early United States enjoying the beautiful design available to them through export! This piece is circa 1900, and is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks, the painting is lovely. The box measures 4 3/4" x 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" tall.
