This elegant dip pen has a mother-of-pearl handle, a gold toned ferrule and a gold nib. It is clearly marked on the nib LEROY W FAIRCHILD, NEW YORK. An existing company was renamed Leroy W. Fairchild in 1843. In 1851 he revolutionized the manufacture of the nib by a soldering process that made a nib that would last indefinitely. The company under this name closed in 1895, so the pen dates to pre 1895. Total measurement is approximately 5 ¾" and condition is excellent. The pen comes with its original case, which is intact but quite worn. The brown stain on the bottom corner of the case is a hard material, as though plastic melted onto it.
