Note: This is a signed copy of a Newbery Honor book 1952. Minn of the Mississippi, 1951, written & illustrated by Holling Clancy Holling, Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston, The Riverside Press Cambridge. This is a book about the Mississippi River and a turtle who lived in it. A wonderful & very popular book from mid-century that was read and loved by many. This copy is in great condition, tight binding, no writing, no chips, no creased pages. There is an inscription on the title page by the author "Autographed to Gregg with best wishes Holling Clancy Holling, 1953". There are several full page color illustrations as well as many in black & white. Out-of-print this first edition book by Holling is sure to increase in value. It would make a lovely gift for someone special. I have two other books by Holling on my site. So valuable now after the oil spil to explain to children the importance of our natural resources.
NOTE: "Two decades before Rachel Carson's Silent Spring captured people's attention, Holling was educating children about the interconnectedness of life and the life cycle of animals and ecosystems (Minn of the Mississippi and Pagoo ). Forty years before Dee Brown's Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, Holling was presenting Native Americans in respectful and positive ways (The Book of Indians listed elsewhere in my shop)".
