This exceptional porcelain charger is one of those truly beautiful Nippon items which, although not flashy, has exquisite artistry and workmanship. It's worth thinking about the technical expertise and time-consuming labor involved in this special example - hand applying 700-800 tiny gold beads around the edges of this plate with a single-hair camel brush. Then there is the gentle, subtle hand painting of the flowers - so many shades and overlapping blossoms with underlying `shadow' petals and leaves. And, finally, the intricate and elegant black `slip' squares and flowers, which are all connected with very fine gold tracery vines and leaves to create a gorgeous border. I especially love the tan, olive and sable brown shading used in the background beneath the hand-painted ice-pink, lemon yellow, and plum peonies. A wonderful addition to your home!
This 10" charger is in excellent condition with no flaws or blemishes that I can see. It has the much favored Van Patten's Mark #52 (maple leaf). Please stop by again when you're traveling down Ruby Lane!
