The vibrant, handpainted magenta and pinkish-lavender violets are beautiful in combination with the striped inner border of pale lavender and soft grass green. Delicate violet sprays fill the interior and fancy stencils of gold filigree and scrolling decorate the panels. And flowers in pretty cornflower-blue and coral also are dotted around the exterior. The turquoise trim on the base ring is a nice touch.
This large 10 1/2" bowl is 2 1/8" deep. The turned out, ruffled and scalloped rim make the bowl seem even larger. It is in very good condition with no chips, nicks, cracks or hairlines. There is minimal fading to the painted florals and minor wear to the gold-trimmed rim or to the gold stenciled filigree on the green panels inner border (ca. 5-10%). There is moderate wear to the gold filigree on the lavender panels (ca. 40-60%). The base is unmarked, but due to the decorative style and colors, as well as the touch of pale blue tint to the porcelain fabric (best seen from bottom of bowl), I am confident that this is likely an early Nippon era item.
