German Lusterware Game Bird Display Plate, Ring-Necked Pheasant (Handpainted) in Meadow (Transfer), Early 1900s

Such an appealing plate! The scalloped form has a delicate, raised beaded trim with small shield-like embellishments placed around the rim. The plate features a wonderful scene done in the mixtion technique of transfer and with hand painting - the transfer is of clouds, sky, mountains, trees and grass and the outline of the pheasant. The bird's plumage is handpainted (please see photo #5 to see this combined technique). A striped, pattern in shades of maize, sage and pale umber covers the bottom half of the 1 1/4" rim and was done in a lusterware finish. It adds a nice sheen and serves to suggest earth beneath the transfer of the subtly shaded clouds - beautiful!

This 8 1/8" plate is in excellent condition with no chips, nicks, cracks or hairlines. The luster finish, transfer and painting shows minimal wear or fading - primarily around the edge of the image in upper sky area. The back is marked with a "Germany" backstamp and a block initial "N". Please stop by again when you are traveling down Ruby Lane!
