Old Turkoman Tribal Pendant and Black Onyx Necklace
It is Sterling Silver oxidized and intricately hammered to form granulation and lacework. This pendant has a goldwash overlay. The center is a Black Onyx cabachon. The bottom dangles have been lost, with only a few remaining. I replaced them with Black Onyx Teardrops and Brass Bell Dangles.
I have not cleaned this piece, nor do I suggest that it be cleaned. This has been hung as a piece of art in the open air for the last 30 years. It is very old and has maintained its status over the years. I believe the look, the age and the present patina add to its allure, beauty and mystery. It is interesting to imagine how this pendant has survived years and years of wear and travel. Just imagine who wore this in the past and the mystery associated with it. Turkomans are from what is known as Turkmenistan (Central Asia), the land of the Parthian Empire. Turkmens are recognized for their rugs, carpets, silk needlework and intricately carved silver and goldwash beads and jewelry.
It drops from a necklace created with beautiful barrel shape Black Onyx beads surrounded by Oriental Motiff beadcaps and separated by bronze connectors. The pendant including the dangles is 2.5" x 3.5". The center Black Onyx Cabachon is 12mm x 22mm. The Black Onyx barrel beads are 18mm. This is 22.5".
This is for a serious collector of Turkoman History.
