Tibetan Copal and Turquoise Necklace
This was created with a Turquoise round teardrop style pendant. It connects to a Yellow Copal Repousse bead. Copal is a type of resin produced from plant or tree secretions. The term is identified with the forms of aromatic tree resins used by various cultures as a ceremonially burned incense. It is often shaped into bead form.
Repousse is the art of embossing or pressing shapes into thin metal to create a design. This process has been used since ancient times to make everything from jewelry to religious Icons. Its almost a lost art nowadays. These beads are handmade by local artisans in Nepal. They utilize the same techniques that have been handed down through generations.
The necklace was created using hexagon shape Turquoise beads separated by brushed brass rings.
The Turquoise is 2". The drop is 4". The Copal are 1". The length is adjustable up to 19.5".
