This is a stunning vase from renowned artist Polia Pillin. Born in Poland and educated at Hull House Art Center in Chicago, Pillin created ceramic pieces for nearly forty years in the latter half of the twentieth century. Often compared to Picasso and known for her Byzantine-esque work, Pillin mixed modern forms of art with the simplicity of older folk influences. This piece depicts a woman holding a bouquet of flowers as a beautiful white horse trots nearby. The woman's pale face is a gentle contrast to the bright colors that adorn her garments - all of them earthy. As the vase begins to widen out near the bottom, so does the woman's flowing robe. The glaze allows for a smooth look that also protects the mosaic like painting beneath. A must-have piece for any avid collector.
