This vintage pendant and necklace is certainly in the style of American Southwestern jewelry. It features a jointed bird pendant made of luscious silver tone metal. The metal is not just a backdrop but makes up the bulk of the bird's body, wings and face. The metal is set with beads of various colors; black (five of them) white (six of them) turquoise (six of them) and red (six of them).
At the center of the bird's "chest" we find a large red plastic cabochon from which hangs the black and red beaded jointed segment of the pendant. Notice (not that you can from pictures) that the center hanging segment is jointed and thus has movement allowing it to sway to and fro. The face of the bird has turquoise beads for eyes and a finely delineated face and beak to match. It almost has a totem like appearance.
The pendant measures 2 3/4" x 3 3/8. The chain it hangs on is 24" and closes with a spring ring clasp. This pendant and necklace are a fine tribute to the art of the Southwest, its dynamic use of radiant colors and creativity in design. It is also and maybe most importantly, a fun piece of jewelry.
