This vintage enameled brooch/pin of a pheasant reflects all the beauty and color of this breed; probably the world’s most famous game bird. Interestingly, the males are more colorful and alas, not to their credit have nothing to do with “child rearing”. This one is different, however. It is made of gold tone metal and enameled in red, orange and yellow. His face is red, as are his upstanding feathers, while his beak is orange . His eye is a dark black, keeping alert to poaches around his habitat. The bulk of his body and long neck is enameled orange while his plumage is two toned ; red and yellow. His spread is such that we see two sets of feathers. The top set has two levels to it, the bottom one of fourteen strands being yellow and the top one of sixteen strands is yellow with a solid red topping. The bottom feathers are also two tiered. Five top ones being red and the bottom six ones being yellow and the tips being gold tone. The bird is 2 1/2" by 2 1/2" and a fitting tribute to this staple of Victorian country novels.
