Circa 1945-52, this is a lovely keepsake with an Italian feel, signed "S.G.K." on the bottom, as well as bearing the notation that is is "Hand Painted." I have been advised by one far more knowledgeable than I that "Occupied Japan" was once imprinted also and has almost undoubtedly been rubbed off by time. These words would have been noted under "Hand Painted."
Body of cup measures approx. 2 1/4" high x 2 1/16" across, with the handle adding another 7/8" or so to the width. The cherubs are in various poses. One carries a scepter like Neptune's, two are little mermen who are half fish, one restrains a dog, one enjoys a dip, and one flies about the sky. Outside of cup is in excellent vintage condition and the colors are still bright. We find no chips, cracks, or crazing. Only sign of age-appropriate wear is to the intricately pretty gold floral painting on the inside of the cup, which has experienced a bit of wearing away over the years.
