Antique Caledonian Railway trade sign, Scottish 19th century. The origins of this sign is recorded on the back by a previous owner: It dates to c.1887, and was removed from the “Perth, North Goods Shed”. Painted on a single wood panel, the sign reads “…store is not to be loaded with a greater weight than 1 ½ CWT per square foot…” Note the change in the listed per hundredweight: It was reduced from 2 to 1 ½ CWT per square foot with the “2” visible underneath the “1 ½ “. The sign was updated during its working life to reflect the railway’s change in policy!
