1920s Egyptian appliqued cloth panel made from what would have been, at the time, old textile remnants. The panel is a door-sized covering with hand-stitched applique of Egyptian motifs using cotton on a canvas ground. It is a finely-stitched and intricately detailed example of its kind with a faded color palette that is almost monochromatic; the once bright hues are now replaced by the beautifully subtle and understated shades of brown, pink and grey. An incredible amount of work had gone into the making of this panel; even the banded pattern along the border comprises small fabric strips of alternating color. Its highly decorative appeal endures and is perhaps improved by the passage of time!
Some sections are fragile and brittle such as the bottom portion of the panel and palm tree, and with applique missing from some places to reveal what was once the original fabric hue. Please view images.
